Here are some of the pros and cons that can help you decide if this type of forklift is right for your operation.

Pros

• Maneuverability – these forklifts are compact with a tight turning radius, which makes them ideal for operating in small spaces or narrow aisles
• Easy on and off – if the job requires the operator to get on and off frequently, this type of lift is ideal
• Better operator visibility – because the operator stands sideways, they have greater visibility when moving forward or backwards, as it doesn’t require the operators to twist their bodies around when changing direction
• No need for a seat belt – because the operator is standing, there’s no seat belt to fasten and unfasten each time they get on or off the lift
• Operators stay more alert – because the operators are standing, they tend to remain more alert, which increases workplace safety and performance
• Lift capacity – when compared to a three wheel sit down model, a stand up lift will usually have a greater lifting capacity

Cons

• Operator comfort – the constant standing posture can cause the operator to experience pain or soreness in the legs or feet
• Joystick operation – these forklifts are usually operated with a joystick, rather than a steering wheel. This can be uncomfortable at first and may require additional training
